College Bound Kids: 6 Steps to Sending Her Off Prepared.

Your oldest - your firstborn (your baby!) is off. Here's how to simplify the process in six easy steps.

college, going off to college, what to bring to the dorms, packing for the dorm

1 Nesting.

This is her first home away from home, and it will come very sparsely furnished.

Make sure she packs:

* A cheery comforter (try to coordinate with roommate)

* Two sets of sheets

* Her favorite pillow

* Curtains

* Area rug

* Afghan or throw

* Study pillow

* Reading lamp

* Trash can

* Fan

* Power strips (for the electronics listed below)

* Photos of Mom, Dad, Poochie

* Hangers

* Shelves and storage containers

2 Health and Grooming.

* Basic medications (cough syrup, ibuprofen, aspirin - whatever she's sure to need in the middle of the night)

* Prescription meds

* Thermometer

* Towels

* Shower tote

* Toiletries

3 Study (oddly enough, the shortest list).

* Computer

* Alarm clock

4 Cleaning.

college, going off to college, what to bring to the dorms, packing for the dorm * Hand-broom

* Mop

* Dustpan

* Laundry bag

* Travel iron (Oh, pack it! Who knows, it might get used.)

5 Eating.

* Can opener

* Utensils

* Cup and a glass

* Coffee maker

* Microwave

* Mini-fridge

6 Entertainment.

* Camera

* TV

* DVD player, speakers

You're all done. Now all you have to do is wait by the phone. (Or redo the room she vacated.)
