How to clean strand bamboo flooring

by Mariah
(Sacramento, California)

I am looking for advice on how to clean our strand bamboo flooring in our family room. We live in the country with two dogs that track in plenty of dirt.

After vacuuming and dusting, I have been using Bona and today I tried Murphy's Wood Oil Soap. Both cleaners have gotten the dirt (and paw prints) up just fine, but both leave a cloudy finish on the floor. I've not been satisfied with the results.

The floors are less than a year old. Please advise!

Keeping Bamboo Strand Floors from Clouding
by: Tara

Hi Mariah, you're doing the right thing by keeping dust and dirt off your bamboo flooring with regular vacuuming and dusting. And Bona is one of the top recommended floor cleaners for your sturdy strand bamboo.

The key to keeping the surface from clouding is using little to no water. Instead spray the cleaner on the floor and wipe it up immediately with a soft cloth. Water and bamboo don't mix and over time, it can damage the wood and cause it to warp, or turn it an unappealing brownish color.

So make sure you're minimizing the floor's exposure to water and keep up the vacuuming and dusting routine. Good luck!
