Got a nail polish spill on your carpet or upholstery? Here's how to remove it.
You'll need:
-- Mineral spirits
-- 3 clean cloths or rags
-- Warm and cool water in separate bowls
-- A few squirts of hand dishwashing liquid.
1 Soften the polish with a gentler cleaner than acetone - mineral spirits.
Gently blot the stained area with a cloth saturated with the mineral spirits, rewetting the cloth as needed. Be sure to move to a clean area of the cloth once the polish begins transferring.
2 Blot any remaining polish with a mixture of 1 cup of warm water and 1 teaspoon of mild hand dish-washing detergent.
Use a clean towel or rag here for the blot-cleaning process.
3 Blot-rinse the cleaning solutions using a third clean rag and a bowl of plain, cool water.
Blot - don't rub - the water into the fiber piles of the carpet or upholstery. Repeat using a clean part of the rag until solution and polish is removed.
4 If any polish remains, however, repeat the steps above.
Persistence pays off when it comes to removing nail polish stains; and they can be removed if you take the full time needed to get the color out of the fabric or carpet fibers. Patience and perseverance will pay off big here, after all: You won't need to call in that expensive carpet or upholstery repair cleaner!
