How to remove white ring from glasswear

White ring around glasses

White ring around glasses

I've tried soaking in a vinegar & water mix, scrubbing with baking soda and toothpaste, but nothing seems to move it. It doesn't feel gritty, and the ring disappears when wet but reappears when the glasses are dry. I bought this set from the op shop, and every one has the same ring.

Is there any other way to remove these rings, or are they permanently damaged?

How to Remove Limescale on Glasses
by: Tara

It looks like you have limescale buildup on those thrifty glasses, usually caused by calcium and magnesium ions in hard water. They’re likely still salvageable.

To break down and remove the buildup, apply nail polish remover to a cotton pad or swab and apply to the white ring. Then gently clean with liquid dish soap. Soaking the glasses for 15 minutes in distilled white vinegar – full strength – is another effective remedy. Let us know how it goes!
